INFINITI Condensers & Evaporators

Most drivers understand what air conditioning does, but fewer know how condensers and evaporators wear down and need to be replaced. These heat exchangers work together to cool your vehicle's interior during hot weather. The QX60 and Q50 use separate condenser and evaporator assemblies as part of their AC system. When either component fails, cooling performance drops significantly or stops completely.

Understanding AC Heat Exchanger Function

The condenser mounts in front of your radiator and releases heat from refrigerant after the compressor pressurizes it. High-pressure gas enters the condenser and cools into liquid as air flows through the fins. This liquid refrigerant travels to the evaporator inside your dashboard. The evaporator allows refrigerant to expand and evaporate, absorbing heat from cabin air blown across its surface. A fan circulates this cooled air through your vents. Both components require unrestricted airflow and sealed refrigerant passages to function properly.

Why These Components Deteriorate

Road debris damages thin aluminum fins on the condenser, restricting airflow and reducing cooling capacity. Corrosion from road salt creates pinhole leaks that allow refrigerant to escape over 8 to 12 years. Vibration causes cracks at tube connections or brazed joints. Internal passages clog with debris from compressor failures or contaminated refrigerant. Evaporators develop leaks from condensation-related corrosion in the humid environment inside the dashboard. Generic replacement condensers and evaporators often use thinner materials that corrode faster or have inadequate fin density that reduces heat transfer efficiency.

Signs Replacement Is Necessary

Reduced cooling performance despite proper refrigerant levels indicates restricted or damaged heat exchangers. Oily residue around fittings or visible damage to condenser fins signals leak locations. Musty odors from vents suggest mold growth on a leaking evaporator. Genuine INFINITI Canada condensers and evaporators include proper mounting brackets and fittings that ensure leak-free installation, while aftermarket units may require modification or have incompatible connections.
