INFINITI Air Intake Systems FAQs
What Does An INFINITI Air Intake Do?
Your air intake system, or air induction system as some call it, draws outside air in through the engine air filter, which removes contaminants. A mass airflow sensor measure's the movement of the air, while the air metering system sends that data to the engine control unit (ECU). Finally, oxygen sensors track the exhaust emission levels, also feeding data to the ECU so that it can adjust levels as needed to deliver ideal engine performance.
How Do I Know if My Air Intake is Bad?
Signs of a faulty air intake system include worsening fuel economy, odd engine noises, darker exhaust emissions, performance woes, and the odor of fuel in the air. Additionally, your "Check Engine" dash light may come on; however, this is an extremely generic warning that covers a host of issues, so you'll want to connect a code reader to determine the reason for the alert before you start replacing parts outright.
How Much Does it Cost to Replace A Faulty Air Intake System?
That depends on several factors, including your model, the parts involved, and whether you do the work yourself or take it to an INFINITI service centre. Air filters are generally the least expensive part, while an intake manifold can cost hundreds of dollars for the part alone -- with labor adding onto your bill. No matter what, though, you'll want to choose genuine INFINITI air intake components. That's because they're guaranteed to be compatible with your model, right out of the box.
